Potter had previously been criticised for not showing a certain attitude in his interviews with the press. Following a 1-0 defeat to Southampton, former Aston Villa striker called for Potter to be sacked after Potter attempted to find the positives despite the loss.

“He should be sacked for that post-match interview,” Agbonlahor told talkSPORT. “‘We've had to make some changes because of the Champions League. We've had to bring some Players in against a settled side, an organised side'. What are you talking about?

“They haven't got a manager. You're playing against a team in disarray that can't get back-to-back wins. And you're complaining that you had to bring [Mykhailo] Mudryk on, you had to start [Joao] Felix. Are you joking me? Poor Graham."
