Tottenham star Richarlison broke down in tears after he was substituted off against Southampton with an injury with less than five minutes on the clock. The Brazilian had been desperate for a first-team opportunity but now could be set for a spell on the sidelines.
Richarlison's first season in a Tottenham shirt has not gone as he would have hoped so far with injuries preventing him from gaining any kind of momentum. The Brazilian is yet to score in the Premier League with his sole two goals for the club coming in the Champions League encounter with Marseille.
The 25-year-old had been desperate for a run in the first team venting his frustrations at manager Antonio Conte for leaving him out against Wolves and AC Milan. However, he impressed on his return to the lineup against Nottingham Forest last weekend and an extended run in the team looked possible.
Yet, his bad luck struck again during the clash with Southampton and he was forced off after five minutes to be replaced by Dejan Kulusevski. He now could be set to spend more time on the sidelines as his disastrous first season in north London continues.
Richarlison has already made his frustrations at the season so far clear describing the campaign as a whole as 's***'. He had questioned why Conte had decided to leave him out the side as he vented his anger following the 1-0 aggregate defeat to AC Milan in the Champions League.
"This season, excuse the word, it's been s***, because I don't have minutes, I suffered a little with the injury," Richarlison told TNT Sports. "But, when I enter the field, I give my life. I came from two games well, I think that's it, I think I should have played and I don't have to cry about it.
"They asked me to take a test at the gym, that if I was good I would go to the game and, at the time of the game, they left me on the bench. These are things that it is not possible to understand."
Conte dealt with the matter internally with Richarlison returning to the side that weekend. He had hoped that would be the turning point for his fortunes in north London however it now appears his turmoil is set to continue as he just cannot catch a break on the injury front.
