Chelsea tipped off for Harry Kane advantage over Man Utd as transfer race hots up | Football | Sport

Tottenham star Harry Kane’s future may not remain in north London beyond this current season as he continues to be linked with a move away from Spurs. The England captain has not yet won a major honour with his club and with less than 18 months left on his contract, could consider pushing for a summer transfer in order to achieve some silverware before he retires.

Both Manchester United and Chelsea are said to have an interest in Kane, as both sides are aiming to recruit a big-money striker in the summer with both the 29-year-old and Napoli hitman Victor Osimhen mentioned as serious options. However, if both clubs do favour Kane then former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore beleives that the Blues have a major advantage over United due to their location.

“If I were Kane, I would do everything in my power to get a move to Manchester United, but that’s me speaking as an older former pro, the fact Chelsea are based in London will probably play a big part as Kane’s family life may mean he doesn’t want to relocate too far away from where he has been for the majority of his playing career,” Collymore wrote for CaughtOffside.

“The situation at Spurs is giving Harry Kane the perfect excuse to leave in the summer. He’s never had an easier way out. Seriously, who is honestly going to begrudge him a move elsewhere now?

“That man has done just about everything he can for Spurs but now, at the age of 29, soon to be 30, this summer is going to be possibly his last opportunity to move on and go to a club that stands a real chance of winning some major silverware.

“Whether that is Chelsea or Manchester United, who knows, but I guarantee that they’ll both be in the running for Kane come to the summer window.”

Kane’s future at Spurs has become increasingly questionable following Antonio Conte’s outburst following their 3-3 draw at Southampton, having given up a two-goal lead including a stoppage-time penalty.

The Italian boss is reportedly set to part ways with the club this week, while Kane’s future will be at the top of the agenda for any incoming boss.

While Chelsea are set to hold further talks with Atletico Madrid regarding loanee Joao Felix and the possibility of signing the Portuguese star permanently, though he is set to cost around £100m and whether Todd Boehly and co would sign off on two forwards in the summer for approximately £200m remains to be seen, though they have not held back on splashing the cash since arriving at Stamford Bridge.
