Hasselbaink responded: “I’m not saying that. There has been a massive improvement in Arsenal from last year to now. They believed in Mikel Arteta and they backed him - they backed him with people going out and they backed him with people coming in.

“They didn’t go crazy in the market but they backed him. Look what he’s producing now. Also, the Players can see that the board are backing their manager. [They see] he’s the boss and he is there to stay.

“That can also happen with Chelsea. I do think he needs to help himself, Potter, by getting a few results and making people believe, getting that confidence from the board and the fans.

“You need to win a few matches. You cannot go through to the end of the season by not winning at all. If he does that, why can they not come back next year being a lot stronger and being a lot more competitive?"
