Neville brought up the figures that explained how United were performing better as a team with Weghorst as opposed to Ronaldo, before Carragher questioned the theory as Neville previously claimed that Ronaldo is the best player of all time.
Neville stood firm on his belief, but struggled to answer when Carragher asked him whether he would pick Ronaldo or Weghorst in the current United team. "So Weghorst is better for Man United than Ronaldo," Carragher said, before a long and awkward pause of silence from Neville.
Carragher, with a big grin on his face, repeatedly asked: "Who would you pick?" to Neville as he dodged the question. He replied: "Personally I don't think either of them at this moment in time are good enough to be playing centre-forward for United, I would have liked there to be a new signing who was basically a brilliant centre-forward."
When pressed further by Carragher, he explained that it was more important who Ten Hag prefers but the answer wasn't sufficient for the Liverpool icon. "I don't know," Neville answered, prompting Carragher to reply: "You don't know between Ronaldo and Weghorst?" as laughter broke out in the Sky Sports studio.
Neville later provided a slightly stronger stance as he claimed that he would play Ronaldo in home games and Weghorst away from Old Trafford, but Carragher was not impressed after Neville had previously dubbed the Portuguese striker the best player of all time.
It is not the first time the Sky Sports pair have clashed over Ronaldo, as they previously got into a fierce debate in 2021 over whether he or Lionel Messi would go down as the best player of all time - as Neville sided with his ex-United team-mate.
“I just feel with the international goals records, the Champions Leagues and the variety of goals that he’s scored, it takes me to think that he is the greatest football player of all time,” Neville said.
Carragher responded: “No one is not a huge fan of Ronaldo or Messi. Ronaldo is not the greatest player of all time. It doesn’t matter how a ball goes in the net… Messi’s got a better goal record than Ronaldo. He’s also a playmaker, Messi can run a game – Ronaldo can’t.”
