Chelsea next manager: Blues’ frightening XI under Luis Enrique with three new recruits | Football | Sport

Prospects of Luis Enrique becoming the next Chelsea manager took a step forward on Wednesday when he reportedly arrived in London for further talks with the club. With co-owner Todd Boehly and the rest of the Blues' recruitment team supposedly impressed by what they've heard so far, Express Sport takes you through what Chelsea's fearsome XI could look like under Enrique, providing he is backed with three new signings this summer...

(4-3-3): Goalkeeper - Raya

Although Kepa Arrizabalaga has performed admirably since forcing his way past Edouard Mendy to regain his spot in the side, the general consensus is that Chelsea still need a top-class stopper to take their game to the next level.

David Raya is untested at the elite level but he has established himself as one of the Premier League's most exciting goalkeepers, while his ability in possession should appeal to Enrique. With just over a year remaining on his contract, the Spaniard is widely expected to leave Brentford in the summer, where he has admitted to rejecting two new deals.

Defence - James, Fofana, Silva, Chilwell

Mammoth investment in Chelsea's back-line means that Enrique may not have to change much if he is appointed. Reece James and Ben Chilwell could well be the most exciting full-back pairing in the division, despite the Blues' poor collective form.

While there are plenty of options in central defence, including exciting prospect Benoit Badiashile, the contrast of youth and experience between Wesley Fofana and Thiago Silva could prove to be a productive partnership next season.

Midfield - Fernandez, Rice, Kante

N'Golo Kante has been a breath of fresh air since making his return from injury this month and he is widely expected to pen a contract extension before the end of the season. Enzo Fernandez, who commanded a British transfer record fee back in January, would also be likely to keep his place, having made a positive impression since signing from Benfica.

A steadying presence to anchor the midfield could arrive in the form of West Ham captain Declan Rice, providing Chelsea would be willing to meet the Hammers' huge £100million valuation. Aside from this star-studded trio, Enrique would also have a range of more attacking options on the bench including Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Conor Gallagher and Carney Chukwuemeka.

Attack - Sterling, Osimhen, Mudryk

Up top is undoubtedly where Chelsea's side needs the most attention, with 29 goals in 29 Premier League games this term putting supporters through a dreary spell. The key issue has been a lack of potency through the middle, with Kai Havertz failing to cut the mustard.

Although Armando Broja should return in time for next season, Napoli hit man Victor Osimhen is likely to top the Blues' transfer wish list after his dominant season with Napoli. Chelsea are reportedly in the hunt for his signature, and the Nigerian has already admitted that he wants to play in the Premier League.

When both at their best, Raheem Sterling and Mykhaylo Mudryk should be Enrique's main men on either flank, even if fans are yet to see the pair in full flow.
