Inter Milan star Andre Onana was at fault for his side conceding a late equaliser against Salernitana on Friday evening. The goalkeeper has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United and Chelsea this summer, though both sides may not have been pleased with his howler.
Inter were hopeful of leapfrogging rivals AC Milan on Friday with a victory at the Stadio Arechi, and they found themselves ahead after just six minutes through winger Robin Gosens. Simone Inzaghi's side continued to dominate proceedings against 15th-placed Salernitana but were unable to double their lead, wasting numerous key chances.
And the San Siro outfit were made to rue their missed opportunities late on when Antonio Candreva’s cross looped over the head of Onana and dropped into the back of the net. The Cameroon international will feel that he should have done better given that he completely misjudged the flight and direction of the delivery, with supporters not hesitating to point the finger at their goalkeeper and blame him for the failure to see the game out.
Inter are facing financial difficulties currently and need to raise funds in order to balance the books, which has captured the attention of several top sides hopeful of landing a bargain.
Chelsea and United are amongst those keeping tabs on the Serie A side’s situation, namely due to their desire to sign Onana once the campaign concludes. According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, both sides are keen on the 26-year-old, with Tottenham also shortlisting the ex-Ajax star as a potential long-term successor for club captain Hugo Lloris.
United are in the market for a new goalkeeper to put pressure on David de Gea as he is yet to sign a contract extension at Old Trafford due to the club’s desire for the Spaniard to accept a pay cut. If an agreement isn't reached then the 32-year-old will become a free agent at the end of the season, leaving Erik ten Hag without any true options between the sticks unless Dean Henderson returns.
