Bayern Munich remain ‘hopeful’ that they can swoop in and snatch Harry Kane from Man Utd’s clutches. The Tottenham skipper has one year left on his deal with the north London side and is expected to depart in the summer.
The Bavarian giants, like United, are on the lookout for a new striker and hold Kane in the highest regard. According to Bayern insider Christian Falk, the club is still chasing the England international but are also keeping a close eye on Frankfurt forward Randal Kolo Muani.
“There are always rumours about FC Bayern, but they haven’t discussed Füllkrug yet. There is still a little hope that they can sign Harry Kane, but Bayern also now have an eye on Randal Kolo Muani of Frankfurt,” he told CaughtOffside.
“The new manager, Thomas Tuchel, is checking the squad at the moment to determine whether he needs new Players in the summer.
“At the moment, they’re focusing on the No.9 position. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is 34 years old and has problems with his back. Mathys Tel is very talented, but just 17 years old. Bayern want to discuss the potential need for a new striker at the end of the season.”
Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel is said to be keen on Kane despite their awkward interaction last season when he was in charge of Chelsea. Following a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge which saw Kane peg back a last-gasp equaliser, Tuchel took out his frustrations on the 29-year-old by slapping him on the back during a post-match interview with the BBC.
Unfortunately, the playful smack was a tad harder than expected with Kane letting out a loud “arrrgh” as it connected. Tuchel apologised for the intensity of his slap, but Kane was able to see the lighter side of it. “That’s another red isn’t it,” said Kane, as he and Tuchel laughed off the altercation.
United are reportedly preparing to make their move for Kane and aren’t willing to wait until the end of the season before opening negotiations with Tottenham. The Red Devils want to agree upon a deal before the transfer window comes around and are said to be willing to fork out £80m for the 29-year-old.
According to Sky Sports Italy, Kane’s agent met with Spurs hierarchy to discuss his future in January, and it is thought that he is favouring a move away from White Hart Lane.
