Amad has already lost two allies in Man Utd dressing room thanks to Ed Woodward | Football | Sport

Manchester United fans are growing in anticipation of Amad's return to the club amid his eye-catching loan spell at Sunderland. But the talented winger won't be happy with Ed Woodward, who sanctioned the exits of two Players he grew fond of in his first 18 months in England.

Amad has lit up the north east this season, registering 11 goals and three assists in 35 appearances for Sunderland.

The 20-year-old Ivory Coast international has been heavily tipped to stay at United beyond the summer as part of Erik ten Hag's attack.

But he may not be too pleased that two of his closest peers in the dressing room are no longer checking into Carrington.

In a recent interview with FourFourTwo, Amad said: "Paul Pogba and Edinson Cavani were [United Players when I signed], and it was fantastic to meet them.

"I have a good friendship with Pogba and also with Bruno Fernandes and Anthony Elanga. They all made me feel welcome."

Woodward left his post as the Red Devils' executive vice-chairman in February 2022, months before Pogba and Cavani left as free agents.

If Amad were to point fingers over who was to blame for two of his closest United pals' absences once he returns, the 51-year-old would be high on the list.

Under Woodward's watch, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer lobbied to tie Pogba down to a new deal. However, the Frenchman claimed that United didn't offer him suitable terms to extend his contract at Old Trafford, prompting his return to Juventus.

Meanwhile, while Cavani's 2022 exit was expected, Woodward's decision to splash out on Cristiano Ronaldo's heroic return to M16 confirmed his fate.

The attacking department Amad will return to could look entirely different to the established first-team department he left last summer.

Ronaldo is no longer at United, while fellow starlet Alejandro Garnacho has cemented his place in Ten Hag's plans, and Facundo Pellistri's minutes are increasing.

Antony will be his main competition on the right wing after his £85million arrival, with Ten Hag also expected to recruit a new striker at the end of the season.

But Amad will be confident he can challenge for a starting spot after a confidence-boosting stay at the Stadium of Light.
