As many as 13 Manchester United stars are reportedly at risk of being sold this summer, as Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag looks to overhaul his squad ahead of next season. The pursestrings have been tightened amid the ongoing potential takeover of the club by either Sheikh Jassim of Qatar or Sir Jim Ratcliffe, but the Dutch boss will be hoping to spend big to improve his side and compete for the Premier League title.
United spent big last summer to bring in the likes of Antony, Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez and their January budget was adjusted accordingly. Amid the potential sale of the club by the Glazers, only two loan deals were made as Wout Weghorst and Marcel Sabitzer joined until the end of the season.
Ten Hag has not been afraid to make difficult decisions at the club, having ousted several Players from the first-team dressing room including Phil Jones ahead of the current season, though many more could be on his chopping block. The Daily Mail have reported that as many as 13 Players could be set to leave Old Trafford in the summer ahead of a big rebuild.
The report suggests that Anthony Elanga could be one of several to make way, as his opportunities have been limited during the second half of the season. He has made just one start since the World Cup break - a Carabao Cup win over Charlton - and as many as 12 clubs are said to be interested in his services.
While several fringe Players, including those out on loan, are likely to moved on such as Eric Bailly, Alex Telles, Brandon Williams and Donny van de Beek. Amad Diallo has impressed on loan at Sunderland this season and could be handed a chance under Ten Hag, while Facundo Pellistri could move in the opposite direction to get his chance to shine on loan elsewhere.
Question marks remain over the likes of Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Anthony Martial despite all three featuring in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Everton. The United captain has fallen down the pecking order behind Martinez and Raphael Varane and could leave the club in search of regular game time.
Furthermore, the futures of both Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot could be in doubt as Ten Hag aims to bring another right-back to the club.
Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong appears to be on the Dutchman's radar, casting doubt over the future of both Players as neither have nailed down the starting spot this season.
Meanwhile, with a marquee striker such as Harry Kane or Victor Osimhen expected in the summer, Martial - who marked his return from injury with a goal vs Everton - could be moved on to help ease any Financial Fair Play concerns.
