Manchester United winger Antony has posted an emotional video on social media reacting to news that he has been named in Brazil’s 26-player squad for the 2022 World Cup.
Selecao boss Tite confirmed his final selections on Monday ahead of the tournament in Qatar, with Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino and Arsenal’s Gabriel Magalhaes the high profile omissions.
But Antony made the final cut and posted a video on Twitter reacting to the announcement.
“For you! Thank you, God! Thank you everyone… friends, family, mum, dad, brothers! Love you! Too much emotion,” Antony said.
Brazil teammates Neymar and Richarlison went on to post similar videos reacting to Tite’s press conference.
Antony has played 11 times for the Brazil senior side having only made his debut back in October 2021 in a World Cup qualifier against Venezuela, scoring in stoppage time to secure a 3-1 win.
Tite’s preferred attacking trident has featured Neymar, Richarlison and Raphinha in recent months, while the stellar form of Arsenal duo Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli means there is stiff competition for a place in the starting lineup.
Antony is not the only representative from Man Utd in the Brazil squad, with midfielders Casemiro and Fred also making the cut. Alex Telles, who joined Sevilla on loan for the 2022/23 season, is one of two left-backs in the 26-player party.
