Competition: National League
Market: Halifax win
Odds: 7/10 @ 888sport
Hoping to try and find a route into the top-half of the National League table, Halifax will host a struggling Scunthorpe on Wednesday night.
Starting with the hosts, not seen on National League duties since suffering a 1-0 loss away at Torquay on January 7th, Halifax should be relishing their return on Wednesday night. Although the Yorkshire-based outfit might have only collected a single point from their last three fifth-tier battles, Chris Millington’s men have continued to shine on home soil this season. Smelling a golden chance to break into the top-half here, the Shaymen are rightfully tipped as a standout pick on Wednesday night. In fact, on what has become a stellar purple patch in front of their own supporters, Halifax are unbeaten in each of their last seven straight battles in Yorkshire – a run that stems all the way back to October 1st. With that run highlighted by a 3-1 romp against Dorking last month, it should also be noted that Millington’s side have won six of those seven home fixtures.
As for the visitors, while Scunthorpe might have managed to claim a much-needed boost against Maidenhead earlier in the month, the Iron are enduring a public National League crisis. Making an immediate return to losing ways falling a 2-0 loss against Woking on January 14th, the Lincolnshire-based outfit are sat rock-bottom of the fifth-tier table. Already five points adrift of safety and tipped as the leading relegation contender in 2023, the Clarets have lost four of their previous five National League matchups. Likewise, it should also be noted, the midweek guests have recorded just a single win from any of their last 13 straight outings. With that run stemming all the way back to October 25th, Scunthorpe have also gained a reputation for their glaring struggles on the road. Still without a single away victory to their name so far this season, we’re backing a home victory here.
