Competition: Scottish Premiership
Market: Both teams to score
Odds: 10/11 @ 888sport
Two sides who are seeking a much-needed Premiership boost on Sunday afternoon, Motherwell will welcome Hibernian to Fir Park.
Starting with the hosts, while Motherwell might have been last seen opening 2023 with a 1-1 draw away at Livingston, the Steelmen find themselves in the midst of what has been a domestic nightmare. Despite impressing many across Scotland last season as they secured a fifth-place finish, Steven Hammell’s men have certainly came crashing back down to earth this time around. Holding just a three-point buffer from slipping to the foot of the Premiership table, the Lanarkshire-based outfit have bagged just a single top-flight victory from their last 10 attempts. With that extended blip stemming all the way back to October 4th, Motherwell should also be worried by their woeful run of form on home soil. In fact, Sunday’s hosts have remarkably clinched just a single Premiership point at Fir Park from their previous five appearances.
As for the visitors, while Hibernian might have managed to claim a much-needed 4-0 romp at home against Livingston last month, it appears that might have just been a minor boost for the Edinburgh-based outfit. Opening 2023 with a dreadful display as they were eventually hit with a 3-0 drumming at the hands of Hearts, there still remains plenty of pressure on Lee Johnson’s shoulders. Marking their Premiership return on December 15th with an action-packed 3-2 loss away at Rangers, the former Sunderland boss will have a real headache over his side’s rather glaring issues at the back. Losing nine of their previous 11 top-flight showdowns – a run that stems all the way back to October 8th – Hibs have also shipped 10 strikes since returning from the World Cup break.
